There were aftermarket chop jobs, most notably by ASC, but this was an official Cadillac offering for the 1984 and 1985 model years. It only came in Biarritz trim, if memory serves.

The HPE is a beautiful car. Yeah they rusted if you breathed on them funny, but what a way to go!

Excellent choice of an X1/9. One of my all-time favorite cars.

The move is just to 9:00 am east coast time. We had some juggling this week that postponed one posting to 10:00 am, but that was an outlier. I hope the time shift doesn’t mess up everyone’s morning-poop reading regiment.

By the way, I believe that the Fox Body Mustang and its SN95 offspring are the only ones in the model’s history to wear the Ford Blue Oval badge. I think the big rectangular slot is for a reflective triangle. There’s also a screwdriver that’s gone AWOL. At least the most important gadget for any old car is there — the tow hook.

About 25 years ago (give or take a few) my father in law bought a black on black 1973 Pantera for $19,000. He kept it for about 4 years, letting me drive it wheneverI wanted, and then sold it... for $19,000. Those were the good old days.

Fun story — the first time I ever saw a V12 R129, it was driven by a guy who owned a fleet of taco trucks that made him mad bank. This was WAAAY before Roy Choi and the fancification of the rolling kitchens, but pretty much the same basic idea. Read more
